maine lobster festivalRockland Harbor Park will be bustling with locals and tourists once again from July 29 to August 2 because of the annual Maine Lobster Festival. Besides your love for these delicious crustaceans, you also contribute to the Rockland Recreation Building Fund when you join the event. So what things should you look forward to besides eating your heart out?

Road Race, Fun Run and Walk

It’s time to burn off those calories by joining the 10K Road Race on the last day of the event. More than 300 runners compete in the 10K through the streets of Rockland and Owls Head. A 5K Walk and 1-Mile Kids’ Fun Run are also available so everyone in the family can take part in this exciting activity!

Lobster Crate Race

If you don’t mind falling into the cold water, then go ahead and join this unique race! Walk across partially submerged lobster crates without falling. The person who has walked on the most number of crates wins. The record is 4,501 crates crossed by a 12-year-old boy from Connecticut.

Lobster Dinner

Around 20,000 pounds of Maine lobster will be prepared and served to tens and thousands of visitors. Whether it’s a Caesar wrap or a Caesar salad, you’ll have that lobster meat in any dish you get at the festival. Get a fill of that award-winning Cabot butter smothered all over the lobster for that added tinge of sweetness. But wait, there’s other seafood involved such as the Maine shrimp, clams, and mussels to satisfy your cravings.

Fine Art Tent

Local artists will be showcasing their arts and crafts at the Fine Art Tent. Find a sea of handmade treasures using oil paints, water colors, photography, and more. Go on a shopping spree and you’ll find fantastic deals on pottery and hand-woven baskets that are all made in Maine!

The Big Parade

Every year has a new parade theme, and in 2014 it was “Lobster Livin’ – The Families Behind the Industry”. Check out the photos from the previous years and you’ll see why this New England event creates such a big storm throughout the whole country.

If you’re looking for places to stay in the area, you can check in to the Hartstone Inn that is 20 minutes away from Rockland. The Inn is also known for its seafood dishes at its restaurant, which also offers cooking classes here and abroad.
