New Year’s Eve is a time when the world seems to have plans, with everyone ringing in a fresh start in their own special way. Whether you prefer to go big and set out to be part of the action at Times Square or just enjoy a quiet night at home, New Year’s Eve is a time to celebrate the past year and look forward to a new year. Here are some of our favorite ideas for celebrating 2014 and starting 2015 off right.

Times Square, New York City

There isn’t a New Year’s Eve celebration that can top the ball drop in NYC. This century-long tradition, originating back when dropping a ball showed the passage of time to sailors, brings in millions of people to the heart of New York City. The huge, Swarovski illuminated ball begins lowering down at 11:59, reaching the bottom of the pole atop 1 Times Square at midnight while the crowd cheers and celebrates the start of the new year with kisses and hugs.

Walt Disney World, Florida

What better way to ring in the New Year than at the happiest place on earth? With special New Year’s Eve hours, the park attracts many people to watch their spectacular fireworks display at midnight. Both children and adults alike will love this trip, making it the perfect way to end 2014 and bring in 2015.

Los Angeles, California

Los Angeles is home to a citywide celebration to start the year off on the west coast on the right foot. Food trucks, light displays, and art installations fill the city, bringing in thousands of visitors. After just beginning in 2013, the celebration is already widely popular within the LA area, attracting more and more visitors from across the county each year. There is a massive light show that counts down to midnight on the side of Los Angeles City Hall.

Whether you choose to travel to a large city to celebrate the start of the New Year or stay close to home in a celebration of your own, New Year’s Eve is a time of joy and happiness. Surround yourself with friends and family to reflect on the year you’ve had and to talk about resolutions for the New Year.
