As the capital and largest city of Hawaii, besides being the home of world-famous Waikiki Beach, Honolulu is a popular destination for travelers of all types. While the tropical city may be known more for its beautiful Hawaii beach homes and romantic scenery, it is a great place for sports enthusiasts too. With world-class golf facilities, the area features a number of courses set amongst the lush backdrop of tropical rainforests and the azure waters of the Pacific.┬áThe island of Oahu boasts a number of golf courses within a short drive of Honolulu, but the avid golfer won’t need to look far for an enjoyable afternoon on the green. Within the city limits, Honolulu hosts a number of courses with a choice of terrains and conveniences.

Ala Wai Golf Course

Situated just a short drive from the famous Waikiki Beach, Ala Wai tops the list for convenience and affordability. The views from the fairway may not be as dramatic here, but the public course offers 18 holes catering to different skill levels, with Diamond Head looming in the background.

Hawaii Kai Golf Course

A little further from the heart of Honolulu, Hawaii Kai’s 18 holes are designed for multiple skill sets. Tee times are a bit pricier at this course, but its elevated location provides scenic views across the sparkling ocean waters.

Honolulu Country Club

While this course is private, the Honolulu Country Club does offer a limited number of tee times to visitors and is only 10 minutes from downtown. The club’s 18 holes come with 3 different tees, accessible to various skill levels.

Oahu Country Club

The Oahu Country Club’s 18 holes are also private, but the club has a reciprocal relationship with other clubs around the country, so it may still be an option. The club also features tees for 3 different skill levels and 360-degree views, nestled in the lush green hills of southern Oahu.

Navy Marine Golf Course

The 18-hole course is a mile away from Pearl Harbor, features four tee levels and has been cited as one of the military’s finest courses. Located adjacent to the Honolulu Airport, the course is convenient to downtown and Waikiki Beach. The only catch is that these greens are limited to those with a relationship to the armed forces. This includes active duty and retired members, as well as civilian contractors, and guests.
