Portland, Oregon

Portland, Oregon is arguably of the United States’ most quirky, intriguing cities. Known as the “City of Roses,” Portland is enthusiastic about coffee, beer and food. And for a city whose slogan is “Keep Portland Weird,” why not visit and see what it’s all about! Here are some reasons to visit Portland that will have you packing your bags in no time!

There are more than 60 funky breweries scattered throughout Portland that produce a wide range of equally funky brews. Stop by a brewery to get a taste of their unique beer, like Hopworks Urban Brewery, where you can bike right up to a bar and try a Rise Up Red Ale or organic beer. Purely neighborhood bars offer many of the local brews so you can taste a few. And if you are interested in catching a flick, Portland loves their “Brew ‘n’ View” movie theaters were you can grab a beer, grub and watch a film!

Food Carts

You will find that some of the most interesting, magnificent cuisine in Portland comes right out of the infamous food carts run by inventive chefs. The city has been named one of the best in the world for street food with over 600 licensed food carts dishing up eclectic eats. These food carts can be anything from an old vacation trailer to a shed, but the food that comes out of them is fantastic!  Some local favorites include La Jarochita, Lardo, and Potato Champion.

Wide bike lanes in the streets make it easy to pedal around the city, just as many locals do. Being one of the most bicycle-friendly cities in the world, the lack of major hills makes it easy for people of all ages to bike around. You can bring your bike along with you or stop by Portland Bicycle Tours to rent a bike and get cycling! It’s a great way to get around and sight-see while being environmentally friendly!

The Portland Saturday Market offers row after row of unique trinkets, live music and intercontinental snacks. It is the nation’s largest weekly open-air arts and crafts market. The Portland Farmers Market is widely considered one of the world’s finest farmer’s markets, selling fresh produce, prepared food, cheese, meat, flowers and more. Try the downtown market or the neighborhood version in Hollywood!

Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI)

If you want to stop by some museums while traveling, OMSI is 219,000 square feet and one of the nation’s leading science museums! With a variety of exhibits including physical science, earth science, life science, technology and astronomy, there is so much to experience! Take part in a live lab demonstration, check out the planetarium, feel what it’s like to be in an earthquake, or see a movie in the OMNIMAX Dome Theatre. With something for everyone, this is a great stop for travelers of all ages!

Known for its artisanal coffee cultural, Portland is home to dozens of micro-roasteries, including Stumptown Coffee Roasters. Starting as a single roaster in 1999, Stumptown captivated coffee lovers and quickly began to spread throughout the city, eventually moving into Seattle and New York City. Emphasizing direct trade, Stumptown creates stunning latte art and highlights the different flavor profiles of coffee varietals.
